What to do & what to bring on your visa appointment day

(NOTE OUR 2-BUSINESS DAY RESPONSE TIME - Priority appointment is available for an additional cost, which must be requested at the time you e-mail us requesting an appointment by typing the word ‘PRIORITY’ on your e-mail subject line)

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE CAREFULLY FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PREPARE, COMPLETE AND LODGE YOUR VISA APPLICATION.

 

Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early, as the Consulate can be fully booked and you will need to complete additional form(s) on arrival. Latecomers may need to re-book and return on another day.

 

As a courtesy, please contact the Consulate if you are unable to keep your appointment. The Consulate reserves the right to refuse service for repeated no shows.

 

ALL FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ARRIVAL AT THE CONSULATE USING BLACK PEN ONLY.

  1. The Consulate of South Africa in Perth can accept applications for visas that can be applied using form DHA-84 ONLY, as listed on the South African High Commission’s Visa page under the heading ‘Visa Categories. APPLICATIONS FOR ANY OTHER VISA TYPES MUST BE MADE IN PERSON AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN HIGH COMMISSION IN CANBERRA.

  2. Please visit http://sahc.org.au/visas.htm for the most up to date list of countries whose citizens require visas to visit South Africa, and also for lists of forms and requirements (including photo requirements) for each visa type under the heading ‘Visa Categories’. All required forms, documents and payment of High Commission's visa processing fee (if required, which is in addition to the administration fee the Consulate charges for accepting your application) must be completed/ prepared before contacting the Consulate to request an appointment, as applicants will have to request another appointment to return to the Consulate if their forms and/ or documents are not complete.

  3. Please note that one appointment is for one person only (e.g., a family of 2 adults and 2 children all needing to lodge their visa applications at the same time must request 4 separate appointments). Applicants without appointment may need to book and return on another day.

  4. Please ensure that you bring copies of original documents that are required to be submitted as part of your application (one copy per document is normally sufficient, unless you are required to provide additional copies), as all documents submitted as part of your application will not be returned. If possible, please photocopy multiple sides/ pages of one document onto a single side of paper. Copies of your original documents will be certified by our Consulate staff as part of the lodgement process. Photocopying/ printing at the Consulate will incur a charge of $1 per page.

  5. Please note that original documents must be shown to the Consulate officer on the day of appointment, as the Consulate will only certify copy of documents when the originals have been sighted.

  6. When attending the Consulate, please ensure that you bring a prepaid self-addressed Australia Post Express Post Platinum 500gr satchel for return of your passport from the High Commission in Canberra (one satchel per family is acceptable). No other types of postal products, including Registered Post envelopes, are accepted.

  7. Please refer to the e-mail we sent you for the amount of administration fee payable for your appointment (which incorporates costs associated with forwarding your application by courier to the South African High Commission in Canberra) and accepted methods of payment.

ALL VISA APPLICATIONS ARE FORWARDED TO THE SOUTH AFRICAN HIGH COMMISSION IN CANBERRA FOR PROCESSING AND APPROVAL, A PROCESS WHICH TAKES 10 (TEN) BUSINESS DAYS FROM THE TIME APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED BY THE HIGH COMMISSION IN CANBERRA.

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE CONSULATE IN REGARDING PROGRESS OF VISA APPLICATIONS LODGED AT THE CONSULATE IN PERTH, AS FINAL VISA DECISIONS ARE MADE BY THE VISA OFFICER AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN HIGH COMMISSION IN CANBERRA. THE CONSULATE WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ANY VISA APPLICATION ONCE IT IS FORWARDED TO THE HIGH COMMISSION IN CANBERRA.

 

THE SOUTH AFRICAN HIGH COMMISSION IN CANBERRA CAN BE CONTACTED ABOUT PROGRESS OF VISA APPLICATIONS ONLY AFTER THE 10 (TEN) BUSINESS DAY PROCESSING PERIOD HAS LAPSED (ALLOWING POSTAL TIMES BETWEEN PERTH AND CANBERRA AND VICE VERSA). ANY QUERIES ABOUT VISA APPLICATION PROGRESS BEFORE THE 10 (TEN) BUSINESS DAY PERIOD HAS LAPSED WILL NOT BE RESPONDED TO.

 

PLEASE DO NOT FINALISE YOUR TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS BEFORE YOUR PASSPORT IS RETURNED TO YOU WITH A SOUTH AFRICAN VISA LABEL IN IT, WHICH WILL CONFIRM THAT YOUR VISA APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL.

 

THE SOUTH AFRICAN CONSULATE IN PERTH OR THE SOUTH AFRICAN HIGH COMMISSION IN CANBERRA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS CAUSED BY UNSUCCESSFUL VISA APPLICATION OR FOR ANY PASSPORT LOST IN TRANSIT.
